Kona is known as the Big Game Fishing Capital of the world. Big Game Fishing Tournaments are held all year long on the Big Island, because of great fishing and great weather. Pacific Blue Marlin are often featured in these tournaments. However, there are tournaments for Ahi, Ono, Mahi Mahi and Spearfish.

Winners receive cash prizes and/or trophies depending on the tournament. One of Capt. Chip’s charter won a jack pot of $64,000 in 2009. Not bad for two days of fishing.

Entry fees range from $100 for one day of fishing to $6900 for a five day event. For more information, contact Captain Chip Fischer at (808) 936-5855 or Email me:fishwchip@hawaii.rr.com

Hi Captain Fischer,

I’m sure you do not remember me or my dad, as it was approximately 1985 when he caught his marlin. His name was Monte Woodrum. It was a 515lb marlin that he caught back then. It was one of his proudest moments and one that he bragged about for years. He passed away in 1993 after an extended illness, but the tale of his 3 hr and 15 minute fight of his life has lived on. I was just looking at the photo today and after a quick internet search was pleased to see that you’re still at it. Hope all is well with you and thanks for the memory.
